Addressing key problems in neuroscience for the benefit of society

Our Mission

The mission of the Brain Institute is to create a network of closely interacting basic, translational, data and clinical neuroscientists at multiple schools at UVA to address key problems in neuroscience for the benefit of the society.

The Brain Institute is committed to actively promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in all of our programming. We firmly believe that diverse representation and inclusivity results in better science, to the benefit of our teams and to society.

Grand Challenges Research Investments in Brain and Neuroscience

In 2022, the University announced a $73 million commitment, Grand Challenges Research Investments in Brain and Neuroscience (GCRI-BN), to pioneer life-changing advances in neuroscience while simultaneously mapping the workings of the human brain. This initiative is funded by the UVA Strategic Investment Fund and is being led, in part, by the Brain Institute.
